As indicated by the title, Antitheses for speaker, voice, and chamber orchestra is based on contrasts. The most important contrasts are the juxtaposition of slow and fast sections, rhythmically free and very rhythmic sections, and finally tonal sections and atonal sections ornamented by sound effects. This piece also employs poetry by two composers: one from the Romantic Era and another living composer. So there we have an antithesis regarding styles. The poets used in this work are W.B. Yeats and David Madden.
