Landscape VII for Brass Ensemble

2009

0:06:15

2(Hn), 4(Tpt), 4(Tbn), Tuba, Perc

Landscape IV is a reworking of a 1970 piece by the composer. It employs thematic and harmonic materials derived from his 20th Century Studies for Two Violins. Landscape IV is modal and lyrical in nature. Numerous polychords and sudden harmonic shifts highlight the entire piece. The solo parts are full of ornamentations and virtuoso passages based on the sonorities of the brass ensemble.

This piece is written for the virtuoso horn player Vaggelis Skouras and the Hellenic Brass Ensemble.

The Landscape Series is a collection of works corresponding to five instrumental groups: strings, percussion, brass, woodwinds, and orchestra.
