Recollections for Theofilos, as the title indicates, deals with remembrances from the past. It refers to the tragic story of Byzantine Emperor Theofilos and his lover Kassiani, who ended her life in a monastery composing famous music for the church. Thus, the story symbolizes the composer's heritage, which is partly the history of the Byzantine Empire. The piece also gives tribute to the name of W.A. Mozart (Theofilos), represented by the composer's use of ideas from Mozart's Concerto No.3 for Violin and Orchestra.

Recollections is comprised of two basic ideas: (1) slow and meditative and (2) a folk dance. The piece was commissioned by Theofilos Sotiriades, who premiered the piece in Thessaloniki, Greece, on December 9, 2001.
