Vln | Fl, Gtr
This piece is a variation of the composer's Recollections for Theofilos with material for guitar. As the title indicates, the piece deals with remembrances from the past. The piece refers to the tragic story of Byzantine Emperor Theofilos and his lover Kassiani, who ended her life in a monastery composing famous music for the church. Thus, the story symbolizes the composer's heritage, which is partly the history of the Byzantine Empire. The piece also gives tribute to the name of W.A. Mozart (Theofilos), represented by the composer's use of ideas from Mozart's Concerto No.3 for Violin and Orchestra.
The piece is comprised of two basic ideas: (1) slow and meditative and (2) a folk dance. Paraphrase can be performed by (a) soprano saxophone or clarinet in Bb and guitar [LRC207a] or (b) violin or flute and guitar.
